Car Park & Hard Landscaping - McAleer & Rushe



BCE Northern Ltd were engaged by Hotel Developer McAleer & Rushe Ltd to undertake the external footprint works to the new Jury’s Hotel situated on the prestigious Baltic Quay site in Gateshead.  Having previously worked with McAleer & Rushe on the Jury’s Hotel Development in the City Centre of Newcastle, with the same team of Designers, Consultants and Architects, BCE were engaged as their preferred contractor.

The Scope of Works involved the construction, to adoptable highway standards, of the new hotel entrance carriageway and guest and staff car parking. A substantial area of Public Realm Improvements to the Quayside Promenade to be adopted by Gateshead Local Authority to include seating and refreshment plazas and adoptable footways constructed in high quality granite paving materials.

Installation of bespoke street furniture included large granite rectangular benches set on pre-prepared concrete foundations with decorative circular bollards to restrict vehicular access to pedestrianised areas.

A local artist was commissioned to design a large decorative glass feature wall and our works included the installation of the heavy stainless steel frameworks to support the feature along with the handling logistics to place the artwork once ready for installation.

The works were complimented with the addition of illuminated bollards, stainless steel pedestrian barriers, timber decking and tree and shrub planting to the Quayside Promenade.

Included within the construction works was the guest and staff car park to accommodate 70 vehicles and constructed to a SUDS design with permeable block paving bays laid alongside a traditional macadam carriageway access road to Local Authority Adoptable Standards.

The car park construction included installation of street lighting and automatic security barrier works and associated ducting and cabling.

Installation of tree pits and associated drainage and below ground watering systems were installed for a tree lined avenue to the Quayside frontage.  Soft landscaped verges planted with shrubs were laid out to the perimeter of the car parks and courtyard area, with ornamental pot planted shrubs to the hotel entrance and foyer.

Streetlighting was installed to the adoptable footpaths and highways in accordance with the LA adoption procedures.  The private guest and car parking facilities for the Hotel Development was also illuminated with a combination of high lamp standards complimented with decorative illuminated bollards and wall lighting.

As a result of the proactive approach and teamwork of the Site Contractors, all works were completed on time for the planned opening date of the hotel.
