The purpose of this project was to offer additional parking facilities for staff, whilst also providing a park and ride service to all hospital employees.
The Scope of Work included bulk earthworks for the construction of a 10,000m2 car park, roads and footpaths, drainage, fencing, installation of new street lighting and the erection of Armco safety barriers.
As Principal Contractor on this project, the work was carried out over a 5 week period between October and November 2012.
The award of the contract was heavily weighted towards the contractor who could demonstrate the shortest construction programme period and high liquidated damages applied of £3,000 per week.
BCE Northern Ltd was successfully awarded the contract with a construction programme period half the duration submitted by the nearest competitor.
This was an extremely important factor as the NHS Foundation Trust had contracted other Third Parties for IT facilities, purchase of Park and Ride buses and other associated parties etc to transport in excess of 400 staff daily to their place of work delivered by a set commencement date.
All work was completed on time, to programme and within the Client’s budget, despite some extremely difficult weather conditions.
