Etherley Lane Drainage Works – Durham County Council

BCE Northern Ltd is engaged in a Framework Contract with Durham County Council, which it uses to procure Civil Engineering & Highway Works to a value between £50,000 & £250,000.

A recently awarded drainage project was undertaken at Etherley Lane, Bishop Auckland.  The scope of works for the scheme was to install a new main surface water outfall drain ranging in size from 450mm dia to 150mm dia through the existing highway, public house and private residence, railway lines and embankment, over a length of approximately 250 lin m.

Due to the sensitive nature of the locations every effort was made to minimise the adverse impact on the property owners, public house trading, general road users and railway operator.

A carriageway closure was arranged over a period of 4 weeks with traffic management diversions to help speed of installation of drainage through the main residential area and minimise disruption.

A railway line possession was arranged to allow the installation of the crossline outfall and construction of new manhole chambers, and all works were completed safely and timely in accordance with the agreements of the rail operator.

Despite the existence of many existing public utility services and obstructions, the works were undertaken on time and to the Client’s budget, with zero incidents of service strikes and disruption.
