GE Oil & Gas

BCE Northern Ltd has built up and maintained a close and collaborative working partnership with GE Oil & Gas, working alongside their onsite Engineers and Designers to deliver many varied Civil Engineering projects over a number of years.

GE Oil & Gas is a global company with a multi-billion pound turnover which undertakes the manufacture of heavy duty undersea oil and gas pipelines and equipment and worldwide distribution from its heavy engineering factory base in Walker Riverside, Newcastle upon Tyne.

The Walker Riverside factory operates 24 hours a day and as a result, repairs and remedials are frequently required. The factory is a very secure, fast paced site and is constantly in operation, with the exception of the annual factory shut down periods. Meanwhile, the nature of the oil and gas industry and the recent merge between GE Oil & Gas and Baker Hughes, has subsequently resulted in expansion projects and developments such as the new innovation centre in the North East which is used to test subsea pipeline technologies.

Most recently, in January 2019, BCE Northern was instructed to undertake works to the Treehouse Production Office located at the Walker Riverside factory. The factory operates 24 hours a day and is a constantly live environment.

The recent merge between GE Oil & Gas and Baker Hughes, has subsequently resulted in expansion projects and developments and the goal of this particular project was to increase the space in the Production Office by constructing a first floor extension above the existing ground floor office.

The scope of works included:
• Demolition of demountable print rooms
• Installation of large steel beam to support first floor
• Installation of access staircase
• Brick and Blockwork
• Joinery
• Mechanical & Electrical Services
