We have been part of a number of Highway works over the years including major roadworks and large car park developments. Our expertise in this area has seen us become a preferred selected contractor for Gateshead Council. We have also undertaken Highway Works in other parts of the region too, including North Shields and Tyneside.

Projects

Sunderland Tyneside Council – Follingsby Lane, Washington

The International Advanced Manufacturing Park (IAMP) represents a unique opportunity for the automotive sector in the UK.

Located on land to the north of the existing Nissan car manufacturing plant.

South Tyneside Council in collaboration with Highways England and representatives from Nissan assessed the transport implications to the existing road network and forecast changes in traffic following the introduction of the IAMP along the A1290 and Follingsby Lane.

Follingsby Lane is a more rural road in nature and is a narrow single carriageway and its existing width is only just sufficient for two cars to pass, with a deteriorating road condition with unfavourable horizontal alignment and main carriageway and verge drainage.

As a viable means of access to IAMP a considerable upgrade was undertaken and BCE Northern were appointed as Principal Contractors by South Tyneside Council.

Trinity Green – Laygate Car Park

One Trinity Green is a modern development offering professional, managed workspace for new and growing companies, built as part of the regeneration of the Laygate and Rekendyke area of South Shields.

As part of the ongoing development and to alleviate existing parking problems experienced at this location and the surrounding residential streets, BCE Northern were engaged as Principal Contractor to construct a new 90 space car park including 5 disabled spaces with associated access and footways.

Reconstruction of Flood Damaged Retaining Wall – A692 Watergate Bank – Gateshead Council

Working with Gateshead Council as a Preferred Select Contractor, BCE Northern was contracted to undertake the Reconstruction of a Sandstone Retaining Structure with reinforced concrete infill, supporting the A692 Highway on Watergate Bank, Whickham. The Clients objectives were to execute the works within a very tight programme period of just 3 weeks to minimize disruption to traffic

Moss Heaps Car Park, Old Durham Road – Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust

BCE Northern Ltd were appointed Principal Contractor by Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust to undertake the construction of a staff park and ride car park on an existing playing field close to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The purpose of this project was to offer additional parking facilities for staff, whilst also providing a park and ride service to all hospital employees.
