South Tyneside Council – Oakleigh Garden Allotments

BCE Northern was employed by South Tyneside Council in Summer 2017, to undertake the construction of a new allotment site on vacant land in Cleadon.

The works included bulk excavation, boundary fencing, an access path, water stand pipes and internal timber picket fences.

Site clearance of this particular site included the removal of existing vegetation matter, the removal of stones in topsoil and the excavation and removal of hotspots of PAH/Vanadium.

Construction work comprised of the installation of a new path along the southern boundary for pedestrian access, the installation of a perimeter weldmesh security fence and an internal low timber picket fence.

The internal footway included the laying of Type 1 sub base and perimeter concrete kerbing followed by a compacted surface of carboniferous limestone chippings.
New water stand pipes were also installed including the connection to existing utilities in the highway.
